The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) found that the Commission Of Inquiry into Child Abuse underpaid Conor Ryan and ordered it to establish and pay the amount owed. The decision was dated 13 August 2024.
Ryan said expected increments on an acting Executive Officer pay scale had not been applied. The CICA argued that he was an administrator employed under a contract that set his salary. The adjudication officer found the deductions were continuous and pointed to a file note saying Ryan was being placed on an incremental pay scale.
The CICA must work with the National Shared Services Office to establish the underpayment, agree the amount with Ryan’s representative and pay it within 42 days. The decision did not specify the amount. The WRC also found Ryan’s complaint under the Fixed-Term Work Act was not well founded because he was not a fixed-term employee when he complained.
