The Workplace Relations Commission recommended that a metalwork foundry adopt an employee handbook after finding it failed to keep a long-serving office manager informed while she remained on pandemic lay-off. The recommendation was dated 19 June 2025.
The worker said most colleagues returned as restrictions eased while she remained on lay-off and her duties were taken over by others. The employer said it intended to bring her back when business improved. The adjudication officer said its comments about her pay and pension showed it considered her too expensive, and described its conduct as cruel and upsetting.
