WRC finds worker’s resignation reasonable after unfair grievance appeal

By Rory Hanlon

Historic decision · Decision date:

Place: no local area assigned from the source.

A worker’s dispute over her resignation was well founded after a flawed grievance appeal, the WRC recommended on 15 June 2022. The officer found it was reasonable for her to leave after the appeal process breached fair procedures. The worker had raised concerns about pay, bullying and management, and said the grievance process took 14 months. The employer said it had tried to address her concerns but could not increase her pay and considered its process fair. The officer recommended training for management on fair procedures and timely grievance handling. She received compensation for unfair dismissal in a related complaint, so the officer recommended no further compensation in this dispute.
