The WRC recommended that an employer take no further action on two grievances by a general operative about public-holiday overtime and time off in lieu. The recommendation was dated 18 November 2022. The worker said an earlier agreement covered only one occasion and sought compensation for later lost overtime. He also wanted payment instead of taking 66 hours of accrued time off. The employer said an agreement with SIPTU had resolved the overtime grievance and its policy was to compensate approved overtime with time off in lieu. The adjudication officer found the worker knew an agreement had ended overtime working and that the employer’s policy provided time off rather than pay. The officer noted that €15,343 had been paid to the worker in earlier overtime buy-outs, and found no merit in the compensation claim or the request for payment instead of time off.
