The Workplace Relations Commission found Helen Bambo’s sexual harassment complaint against Cassidys Hotel not well founded in a decision dated 12 July 2023.
Bambo said a male colleague made unwanted comments and advances, including asking her for a drink and trying to hug her. She said she raised concerns with her supervisor in November 2021 and later made a formal complaint.
The hotel said management spoke to the colleague and arranged shifts to keep the two apart. The adjudication officer found the supervisor credible and accepted that he had not laughed at or dismissed Bambo’s concerns.
The officer found that the hotel had taken reasonably practicable steps by responding informally and separating the employees. The complaint was not well founded, so Bambo did not succeed in her claim under the Employment Equality Act 1998.
