The WRC recommended that the employer review outstanding contractual leave entitlements of staff within two years of retirement and send each approaching retiree the annual leave policy. It also recommended allowing former employees a defined period to appeal grievance decisions made before their employment ended. The recommendation was dated 11 November 2022. A worker sought compensation for 129 days of untaken contractual leave after retiring following 48 years with the employer. The worker had taken all statutory leave. The officer found the employer had repeatedly encouraged the worker to use the contractual leave and that the worker had ample opportunity to do so but chose not to.
