The Workplace Relations Commission declined jurisdiction over John David Stokes’s Equal Status complaint against Kenneth Murtagh/Murtagh Bars Limited. The decision, dated 5 May 2023, concerned allegations that members of the Traveller community were asked to leave a bar because of their community membership.
The respondent denied the allegations. The WRC found that the alleged conduct took place on licensed premises, where the Equal Status Act did not apply. It therefore declined jurisdiction; the merits were not decided.
