The Workplace Relations Commission found John Boyne entitled to a statutory redundancy lump sum of €29,407 after his employer conceded the claim. The decision was dated 30 September 2022. Boyne had worked as a head chef for Camrue Catering Limited from 5 October 1997 and was laid off in March 2020 because of Covid-19 restrictions. He said he had not received confirmation that he could return to work or payment of his statutory redundancy entitlement. The company said it had closed because of the restrictions and lacked funds to pay staff entitlements. The lump sum is calculated by the Department of Social Protection if a claim is made to the Redundancy Payments Scheme. Payment is subject to Boyne having been in insurable employment for the relevant period; the decision says that is for the Department to determine.
