The Workplace Relations Commission found that Patrick Geoghegan’s redundancy complaint against Carnaross Mart was out of time and statute barred. Its decision, dated 22 November 2022, said the merits were not decided. Geoghegan had worked two days a week as a mart operative since 2002 and sought redundancy entitlements. His employment ended on 4 August 2020, and he referred his complaint on 18 August 2021. The WRC could extend the usual 12-month time limit to 24 months if there was reasonable cause for the delay. The adjudication officer considered Geoghegan’s reasons, including caring responsibilities and lack of awareness of his rights, but found the reasonable-cause test was not met and refused an extension.
