The Workplace Relations Commission found a paternity-leave complaint against Smyths Toys Ltd was not well founded. The decision was dated 24 June 2022. Adam O'Connor, who worked part time at the company's Tralee store, said he had asked for paternity leave in messages to his manager. The manager replied that it should be okay, but O'Connor did not complete the forms required under the staff handbook. The adjudication officer found the manager's replies gave the wrong impression, but the request was informal and neither side followed through. The officer said Smyths had not refused leave, and O'Connor did not check with another manager when the leave did not appear on the roster. The complaint failed on its merits.
