WRC finds former practice nurse entitled to redundancy payment

The WRC found Edel O’Brien entitled to a redundancy payment after her former employer, Dr David Ross, ceased carrying on the practice where she worked. The decision was dated 31 May 2022. O’Brien worked as a practice nurse from 6 March 2009 until 31 January 2021. Ross argued that the practice had transferred to the HSE and that her employment continued, but the adjudicator found that her employment had ended by reason of redundancy. The payment is based on her start date, termination date and gross weekly pay of €374, subject to her having been in insurable employment during the relevant period.
