WRC recommends childcare centre manager work on site until 5pm

The Workplace Relations Commission recommended that a childcare centre manager finish her working day at the centre, where parents collected children, and that her employer consider mediation among its three managers. The recommendation was dated 18 July 2022. The manager had worked from home for the final hour of her day. She said the arrangement had been agreed and that she needed to collect her child from school. The employer said it was temporary and that a manager should be on site until 5pm. The adjudicator found it reasonable to require her to work at the centre. Later allegations of discrimination and harassment were outside the inquiry’s scope under the Industrial Relations Act.
