The Workplace Relations Commission found Emma Phillips was not unfairly dismissed by Flutter Entertainment PLC, rejecting her complaint. Adjudication Officer Brian Dolan dated the decision 25 April 2022.
Phillips, a deputy manager, was dismissed for alleged gross misconduct after providing betting credit and falsifying cash shortages. She said dismissal was disproportionate, citing mitigating circumstances including that she had followed her manager’s instruction. Flutter said she knowingly breached its rules.
The adjudicator found Phillips knowingly breached trained security and cash-handling procedures and had not reported the conduct through the proper channels. The decision said store credit could enable poor gambling practices and exacerbate gambling addiction. The WRC found the complaint was not well founded.
