WRC finds Margaret Spain’s dismissal was fair after school outsourced cleaning

The Workplace Relations Commission found Margaret Spain was dismissed by reason of redundancy and did not suffer unfair dismissal. The decision was dated 27 June 2022. Spain had worked as a cleaner for Scoil Naisiunta Chill Ruadhain since 2006. The school outsourced its cleaning service after requirements expanded, including additional Covid-related duties. Spain argued that the cleaning work continued and that the redundancy was not valid. The WRC concluded the school had made a valid redundancy decision and did not uphold the complaint.
