The Workplace Relations Commission found Gary O' Sullivan was unfairly dismissed and awarded him €4,000. The decision was dated 27 June 2022. O' Sullivan worked as a greenkeeper at a golf driving range and golf school. He said he was dismissed for redundancy after an argument with one of the owners during a thunderstorm. The respondents said falling income during Covid and other business problems required the redundancy. The WRC accepted there was a business case for redundancy but found the respondents did not consult O' Sullivan, consider alternatives or offer an appeal. It ruled the dismissal unfair. He had already received about €16,000 in redundancy pay, and the €4,000 redress award was additional to that payment.
