The Workplace Relations Commission found George McLoughlin’s age discrimination complaint against Permanent Tsb was not well founded in a decision dated 23 March 2022.
McLoughlin said the bank refused his €275,000 loan request because of his age, despite his assets and savings. The bank said that application was for a personal loan, which was capped at €75,000 and could not be used to buy a house.
The adjudication officer found McLoughlin withdrew the personal-loan application and did not formally apply for bridging finance. The bank’s lending criteria reflected its regulatory obligations, and its reference to age was proportionate and justified. The complaint failed.
