The Workplace Relations Commission found that Tesco Ireland did not discriminate against Claire Louise Cranny on family-status grounds. Adjudication Officer Jim Dolan dated the decision 10 June 2022.

Cranny said a deputy store manager’s remark about her teenage children during a meeting about her absence suggested they could mind themselves while she returned to work. Tesco said the meeting was intended to understand her childcare difficulties and help arrange her return.

Dolan said the comment should not have been made, but found Cranny had not shown that she was treated less favourably than someone without family status. The complaint was not well founded and failed.
