The Workplace Relations Commission has directed Salthill Catering Company Limited Trading as Supermac's & Papa John's to pay Amanda Donoghue €720 after finding she was not given a written contract of employment. The decision was dated 21 November 2022. Donoghue, a shift manager, said she was unfairly dismissed after taking unpaid leave in August 2020. The company said she had indicated she was leaving and later offered her different shifts, which she could not take because of college. The WRC found that she had not been dismissed, so her unfair dismissal complaint was not well founded. The WRC also found her complaint about a €5 weekly deduction for dry-cleaning costs not well founded. It said she had not established that illegal deductions were made within the six-month period it could consider. Her complaint about notice was also not well founded because the WRC found she had left her job. The €720 award was three weeks’ gross pay for the failure to provide written contract information.
