The Workplace Relations Commission found David Rooney’s pay complaint against Starrus ECO Holdings Ltd Panda & Greenstar not well founded, ruling that the employer could change his working hours to meet business needs during Covid-19. The decision was dated 29 September 2021. Rooney, a weighbridge operator employed since 1978, said he was placed on a three-day week after refusing a temporary 5% pay reduction and sought about €1,710. The WRC also found his holiday-pay and public-holiday complaints not well founded because he remained employed. It had no jurisdiction to hear his unfair-dismissal complaint because he had neither been dismissed nor resigned. His age and disability equality complaints were outside the six-month time limit, so their merits were not decided.
