WRC finds Liam Mahoney entitled to redundancy payment after butcher’s shop closure

Liam Mahoney is entitled to a redundancy payment after the butcher’s shop where he worked closed, the WRC found in a decision dated 30 July 2021. The decision gives his employment dates and gross weekly pay of €495 as the basis for calculating the entitlement. Mahoney said he had not received the redundancy payment he was promised. John Donovan trading as Donovans of Rathgar argued that Mahoney was not entitled because he had found him alternative work at his brother’s butcher’s shop. The adjudicator found the shop closure caused the redundancy and that work with a separate legal entity did not change Mahoney’s entitlement.
