The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Log Cabin 4 Less Log Cabin 4 Less to pay Edwin Leahy €1,200 for notice, €480 for four public holidays and €600 for untaken annual leave, and to make a statutory redundancy payment. The WRC decision was dated 2 June 2022. Leahy worked as a sales representative from May 2018 until around mid-September 2020, earning €600 a week. He said he was laid off from March 2020 during the pandemic and later told his position no longer existed. The respondent did not attend the hearing, and the adjudicator accepted Leahy’s evidence in the absence of contrary evidence. The WRC found his Payment of Wages complaint for two unpaid days was brought outside the statutory time limit and was not well founded; the merits were not decided. It also found him entitled to a statutory redundancy payment based on his employment dates, lay-off period, hours and weekly wage. The decision gave no figure for that payment and directed that payments be made within 42 days.
