The Workplace Relations Commission found that George McGrath was not entitled to notice pay when his specified-purpose contract as a ministerial driver ended with the Minister’s term of office. The decision was dated 18 November 2021.
McGrath claimed two weeks’ pay in lieu of notice. The WRC found that the contract ended automatically when its specified purpose expired, rather than through termination by either side. It therefore found the Minimum Notice and Terms of Employment Act was not contravened and the complaint was not well founded.
