The Workplace Relations Commission dismissed Dr Andrew Irving's unfair dismissal complaint against University College Dublin. Its decision was dated 22 November 2022. Irving argued that his lecturer role continued and that he should have received a contract of indefinite duration. UCD relied on his fixed-term contract, which stated that the Unfair Dismissals Acts would not apply when it ended at the end of the term. The officer found the contract clearly set out that exclusion, so the Act's protections did not apply.
