The Workplace Relations Commission found that Imagine Networks Services Limited unfairly dismissed Jessica Brennan and ordered it to pay her €8,500 compensation. The decision was dated 15 June 2022.
Brennan worked as a marketing executive from November 2018 until her redundancy in September 2020. She said the redundancy was not genuine and that she had not been told why her role was being cut. The company said Covid disruption forced it to restructure and reduce sales and marketing activity.
The adjudication officer found Brennan was not told that her role was at risk or consulted before the decision. The officer was also not satisfied that the redundancy selection criteria were applied fairly and transparently. Brennan had sought an update on her lay-off in August 2020 but was not told that her redundancy was under consideration. The €8,500 compensation was for financial loss, equivalent to about 18 weeks’ pay. She had found new work in March 2021.
