The WRC awarded Megan Healy €21,736 after finding she was unfairly dismissed from her job as a gym manager at Fit 4 Life Gym Ltd. The decision was dated 23 August 2021.
Healy said she was dismissed after attending a course on a Saturday she did not normally work. She had offered to swap shifts or work another day, but said she received no response. The respondent did not attend the hearing or submit a response.
The adjudicator found that Healy was dismissed in haste without being heard, and that the company had shown no substantial grounds for dismissal. The WRC said compensation was the only practical remedy because the employment relationship could not be restored. The award comprised 46 weeks of economic loss and 26 weeks of prospective loss, calculated using a €100 weekly difference in her new work.
