The Workplace Relations Commission found Paulette Guinan entitled to statutory redundancy pay after the closure of the shop where she worked. The decision, dated 5 July 2022, said she should receive her statutory entitlement; it did not state an amount. Guinan worked as a shop assistant from 31 August 2015 until 11 July 2020. Her employer accepted she was entitled to redundancy pay but said it could not pay. The adjudication officer found her complaint was made within the 52-week time limit and that the shop’s closure met the statutory definition of redundancy. The parties had agreed to apply for payment from the National Fund. If that payment had already been made before the decision was issued, no further statutory redundancy entitlement would accrue.
