WRC rejects John Joe O’Driscoll’s shore-leave pay complaint

The Workplace Relations Commission found John Joe O’Driscoll’s complaint against Seahorse Unlimited Company was not well founded. The decision was dated 16 August 2021. O’Driscoll had sought full pay for shore leave after being certified fit to return to work. The company said full shore-leave pay depended on having worked the preceding 28 days at sea. The adjudicator found that the agreement and established practice required that period at sea to earn shore leave at full pay. He also found that the full payment O’Driscoll received in 2018 arose from unique circumstances and did not set a precedent. The second complaint reference was treated as a duplicate.
