The Workplace Relations Commission found that Daithi O'Raithbheartaigh’s complaint against Ken Assets Management Limited was not well founded. The decision, dated 29 June 2022, concerned his allegation that he was discriminated against when he sought to rent accommodation.
O'Raithbheartaigh said he was not offered a viewing after he told the letting agent that he did not fit the advertised preference for students and younger people. He alleged age discrimination and discrimination related to his eligibility for the housing assistance payment (HAP).
The respondent said the property was purpose-built student accommodation and could only be rented to full-time students. The adjudicator found that the property could only be rented to full-time students and that O'Raithbheartaigh was not a student. The adjudicator found no discrimination on either the age or HAP ground, and the complaint failed.
