WRC finds Karina Bicz’s redundancy was fair

The Workplace Relations Commission found that Karina Bicz was not unfairly dismissed when Dwell works Relocation Services Ireland Ltd made her redundant. The decision was dated 9 June 2022. Bicz argued that the redundancy was a sham linked to conflict with her manager, and that consultation was inadequate. The company said trading difficulties and the centralisation of its finance function led it to close its Irish finance department and make both finance staff redundant. The adjudication officer accepted that there was a genuine redundancy and found the process reasonable and fair, despite concerns about the speed and insensitivity of the consultation. The complaint was not well founded.
