The WRC directed Sinead Moore Projects Limited Interiors Atelier to pay Caroline Power €1,000 for failing to provide statutory notice and a further €1,000 for failing to provide contractual notice when making her redundant. It stated the notice compensation total was €2,000. The decision was dated 19 August 2021. Power, an interior designer, said she was made redundant with immediate effect in June 2020 and received no redundancy or notice payment. The company’s director accepted that the payments and requested documents had not been provided, citing financial pressure and a family bereavement. The WRC found the company had failed to provide documentary evidence of its inability to pay redundancy and held that Power was entitled to a statutory redundancy payment, subject to insurable employment. The calculation criteria included her employment dates and net weekly pay of €500.
