WRC finds carpenter’s wages complaint out of time

Place: no local area assigned from the source.

The WRC found a carpenter’s wages complaint was out of time and that it had no jurisdiction to investigate it. The complaint sought €8,167 in unpaid wages and €1,500 in diesel expenses. The decision was dated 30 June 2021; the merits were not decided. The worker said he was owed wages and expenses by a construction company. The company disputed the claim and said he had retained its tools and machinery. The adjudication officer rejected the worker’s reasons for the delay, including stress, broken devices and confusion over an earlier complaint to the WRC Inspectorate. The WRC received the complaint on 29 July 2020.
