WRC rules against Olanrewaju in race discrimination complaint against Maxol

The Workplace Relations Commission found Adetokunboh Ademola Olanrewaju’s race discrimination complaint against Maxol Service Station was not well founded, after concluding it lacked jurisdiction because he had not completed the required notification to the respondent. The merits were not decided. Olanrewaju said Maxol treated him less favourably by refusing to provide CCTV footage after a collision on its forecourt. Maxol denied discrimination and said Gardaí had secured the footage. The WRC decision, dated 7 September 2022, said the required notification under the Equal Status Act had not been completed, so the Commission could not investigate the complaint. The €1,500 mentioned in the decision was Olanrewaju’s car repair cost, not an award.
