The WRC found Pierce Parker’s complaint against landlord Linda Berg not well founded after she withdrew an offer to rent him a room in Parkwest, Dublin 12. The decision was dated 15 October 2021.
Parker alleged discrimination on race, age and gender grounds. He said he had supplied identity and financial documents, and that the apartment remained advertised after Berg withdrew the offer. Berg did not attend the hearing, so the adjudicator considered Parker’s evidence and documents.
The adjudicator found Berg had initially been willing to rent to Parker and had accepted his documents, but later withdrew the offer. The adjudicator considered the missing character reference was the reason, rather than Parker’s age, gender or nationality, and found that the facts did not support a presumption of discrimination.
