The Workplace Relations Commission awarded John Waters €41,793.23 for unfair dismissal and €1,421.55 for unlawful wage deductions by Alpha Mechanical Services Limited. In a decision dated 27 June 2022, the WRC also found his disability discrimination complaint not well founded.

Waters, a contracts manager, said the company dismissed him after he challenged reduced pay while working from home. The company disputed that he was dismissed and said he was not working full time. The WRC found the dismissal unfair, noting that the company had provided no process. The compensation included lost earnings, a salary difference, lunch allowance and pension contributions.

The WRC found that reasonable accommodation was not denied while Waters worked from home, so the discrimination complaint failed. It also found both Payment of Wages Act complaints well founded, ordering €1,421.55 for deductions from two weeks of wages.
