The WRC rejected a security worker’s complaints of race discrimination, harassment, victimisation and unequal pay against a security company. In a decision dated 13 June 2023, Adjudication Officer Breiffni O’Neill found the worker had not established a case on any complaint.
The worker said he earned €13.50 an hour at a construction site, while an Irish security officer at a data centre earned €14.50. The company said the sites had different duties, clients and security requirements, and that the pay difference was unrelated to race. The officer found that rates at separate sites were not enough to establish an equal-pay complaint. The other complaints also failed: there was no supporting evidence of discrimination or harassment within the relevant period, and he had not shown a protected action for the victimisation claim.
