WRC rejects religious discrimination complaint against Dundalk Institute of Technology

By Tadhg O'Sullivan

Historic decision · Decision date:

Place: no local area assigned from the source.

The Workplace Relations Commission found that Dundalk Institute Of Technology did not discriminate against John Hamill in a complaint about access to its facilities and a request to arrange a non-religious service. Hamill said the Institute imposed a cost barrier on his use of its facilities and treated non-religious groups less favourably. The Institute said external groups generally had to pay unless invited by students or staff, and no one had invited him. The WRC found the booking policy reasonable and said Hamill had not established a prima facie case of discrimination. It found the complaint not well founded. The decision was dated 7 November 2022.
