The Workplace Relations Commission found that a supervisor’s dispute over a permanent inspector vacancy was not well founded, in a recommendation dated 19 July 2021. The worker argued that a 2000 agreement and past practice meant the vacancy should have been limited to existing inspectors. The bus service provider said the agreement covered temporary or acting-up posts, while permanent positions were filled on suitability. The WRC found that section 7 of the agreement applied to acting-up posts and did not require permanent vacancies to be restricted to inspectors. The supervisor had not proved the provider was obliged to recruit only from existing inspectors.
