The WRC found Allianz Insurance did not engage in prohibited conduct against John Wolfe over travel insurance cover and an age-related premium. The decision was dated 29 November 2021.
Wolfe alleged that Allianz refused cover for declared conditions and charged him more because of his age. The WRC found he had not established a prima facie case regarding the refusal of cover because he provided no evidence identifying a discriminatory ground.
Allianz acknowledged charging higher premiums to customers aged 81 to 99 than to those under 80. The WRC found the difference was based on relevant underwriting or commercial factors and was reasonable under the insurance exception in the Equal Status Acts.
