Fingal County Council did not discriminate against entrepreneur excluded from competition

The Workplace Relations Commission found that Fingal County Council did not discriminate against Mark J. Savage when the Local Enterprise Office excluded him from Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur competition. The decision was dated 29 March 2021.

The Council said the competition’s age limit was justified and that Enterprise Ireland set the criteria. The WRC found the Local Enterprise Office was part of the Council and helped operate the competition. It found the age limit reasonably necessary to promote the interests of entrepreneurs aged 18 to 35. Savage’s religious discrimination claim was speculative and did not meet the threshold for a prima facie case. Both complaints were not well founded.
