The Workplace Relations Commission found that a Cleaner was unfairly dismissed by Hugh Hegarty Management Support Services (Ireland) Ltd and ordered the company to pay €864 in compensation. In a decision dated 27 April 2021, it also found a separate complaint about employment regulations not well founded. The Cleaner moved to a site nearer her home in June 2018 under a fixed-term contract. The officer found that the contract did not exclude her from the Unfair Dismissals Act and that the employer had not given her an opportunity to argue against her dismissal or appeal it. She found work within a month on the same hours and pay. The WRC rejected her request for an additional week’s paid notice.
