The Workplace Relations Commission found that Bank of Ireland did not discriminate against Ehsan Sooudi in handling his car finance application or UK money transfers. The decision, dated 19 July 2021, found the bank’s actions were objectively justified by its legal and regulatory obligations.
Sooudi said the bank required him to sign an additional form before releasing car finance and refunded transfers to his UK account without contacting him. He alleged discrimination based on race and nationality. Bank of Ireland said its enhanced due diligence and transaction decisions were based on legal and regulatory obligations. The WRC found all three complaints not well founded.
