WRC dismisses Roberto Alamazani’s Equal Status complaint against Bank of Ireland

The Workplace Relations Commission dismissed Roberto Alamazani’s Equal Status complaint against Bank Of Ireland Group Plc as misconceived, in a decision dated 22 September 2021. The complaint concerned alleged racial discrimination and victimisation after the bank did not respond to his letters and an employee gave evidence at an earlier WRC hearing. The adjudication officer found that giving evidence at a hearing was not a service covered by the Equal Status Act. The officer also found that the employee’s witness disclosures were protected and that the bank could not be held vicariously liable for them. The merits of the discrimination and victimisation allegations were not decided.
