WRC declines to recommend pension increase for retired bus driver

By Eimear Byrne

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The WRC did not recommend revised pension rates or compensation for a bus driver who retired before new pay rates took effect. The recommendation was dated 24 April 2018. The worker said the delay in implementing a Labour Court recommendation left his pension lower, claiming losses of €31.75 a week and more than €6,600 from his pension lump sum. The public transport company said the statutory scheme calculated pensions using pay at retirement and it had no discretion to change the calculation. The WRC found no evidence that the company deliberately delayed implementation.
