WRC awards video producer €2,500 over delayed wages

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The Workplace Relations Commission awarded a video producer €2,500 after finding that a digital media company unlawfully delayed his wages. Adjudication Officer Penelope McGrath dated the decision 3 April 2018.

The complaint concerned his September 2017 salary, which was paid late, and December pay that remained outstanding at the January hearing. The company cited cash-flow difficulties. The officer found the delayed September salary was an unlawful deduction and that the December salary remained unpaid.

The officer accepted that the company had not deliberately withheld the money, saying it was cash-strapped. She noted that delayed wages could leave staff struggling to meet household bills. The employer was directed to pay €2,500 compensation.
