WRC dismisses rent allowance complaint after complainant misses hearing

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The WRC dismissed a complainant’s Equal Status complaint for want of prosecution after the complainant did not attend the hearing. The merits were not decided. The complaint alleged a property company refused to rent a home because the complainant received rent allowance.

The property company denied the allegation and called the complaint an abuse of process, saying the complainant had brought hundreds of identical complaints against different property companies around the country. Adjudication Officer Emile Daly dated the decision 3 May 2018.
