WRC recommends €23 fortnightly allowance for hospital driver

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The Workplace Relations Commission recommended that a hospital pay a driver a €23 fortnightly allowance from 1 January 2017 on a personal basis. Adjudication Officer Pat Brady dated the recommendation 26 March 2018. The employee’s union said colleagues doing the same work received the allowance and sought back pay from 2008. The hospital argued that the employee’s pay scale already included it, while acknowledging some colleagues continued to receive the allowance under a red-circling arrangement. The WRC said the arrangement had created a pay difference between employees doing the same work. It recommended extending the personal allowance on the same terms as the existing arrangement.
