WRC awards employee €807.54 each for unfair dismissal and minimum notice

By Cathal Brosnan

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The WRC found an employee was unfairly dismissed and awarded her €807.54. It also awarded her €807.54 for minimum notice. The decision was dated 11 April 2018. The employee said the disciplinary process was unfair and that she had sought to return to work. The employer said she had been absent without authorisation and failed to attend disciplinary meetings. The adjudication officer found her failure to attend meetings contributed 50% to her dismissal, reducing the unfair-dismissal award to two weeks’ pay. Her terms-of-employment complaint failed because she had frustrated efforts to resolve contract issues; an earlier €500 award on that complaint was not changed. Her industrial-relations complaint also failed because the employer had received no grievance.
