Workplace Relations Commission ·

The Workplace Relations Commission found that a forklift driver was underpaid for a public holiday and directed a wholesale company to pay €87.29. The decision was dated 20 November 2017. The driver said his agreed 39-hour schedule meant he had to work 37 hours during the holiday week to receive 39 hours’ pay, while full-time colleagues could work 31 hours for the same benefit. The company did not attend the hearing, although the officer was satisfied it had notice. The officer found the driver was entitled to 7.8 hours’ pay for the holiday; his payslip showed he had been paid for two hours. The award was subject to statutory deductions.
