WRC awards general operative €1,550 for unpaid leave

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The WRC awarded a general operative €1,550 for unpaid annual leave after finding a commercial plastic wrapping company had failed to meet its leave obligations. In a decision dated 28 March 2018, it also awarded €800 for a collective redundancy breach, €800 for failing to provide employment terms, €700 for unlawful wage deductions and €78 for public holiday breaches. The operative, who had worked for the company for nearly seven years, said two final payslips had not been paid and that he had received no contract. The company did not attend the hearing, but the WRC found it had failed to follow through on redundancy obligations, provide a statement of employment terms, pay final wages and meet working time requirements. The unfair dismissal complaint was withdrawn.
