WRC rejects Irish worker’s race discrimination complaint

By Orla Quinn

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The WRC found that an employee was not discriminated against on race grounds in his working conditions or dismissal. The decision was dated 2 February 2018. The employee, a warehouse operative and van driver, said Polish was spoken in the warehouse and that he was dismissed because he was Irish. The employer said his dismissal followed poor performance, attendance and timekeeping during probation. The WRC found the employer’s evidence more convincing. It concluded that work instructions were given in English and that poor performance and attendance, rather than race, led to the dismissal.
